About Johanna

People, language and meaningful moments.

I’ve built a lot of my work around communication — teaching it, translating it, and helping people find the right words when they matter most.

A bit about me

I’m an English and Spanish teacher, translator and wedding celebrant based in the Wellington region. I’ve worked with adult learners from a wide range of backgrounds, and I really enjoy making learning feel practical, respectful and genuinely useful.

Whether I’m teaching or leading a ceremony, a lot of what I do comes back to the same things: listening carefully, helping people feel comfortable, finding the right words, and making sure people feel included.

My approach

✦ Warm, not formal. I like people to feel comfortable. Whether we’re in a lesson or at a wedding, I don’t think things need to feel stiff to be meaningful.
✦ Practical, not complicated. I like clear explanations, useful guidance and things that actually make sense in real life.
✦ Personal, not generic. Everyone learns differently, and every couple is different. I’d much rather shape what I do around you than force you into a template.
✦ Inclusive by design. Language can bring people together, and I love being able to work across English and Spanish so more people can feel part of what’s happening.

A little more personally

Useful, human, and with a bit of humour.

I’m a bit of a language nerd, I love working with people, and I’m happiest when something feels both useful and human.

I like a bit of humour, I don’t take myself too seriously, and I think some of the best moments happen when things feel natural rather than overly rehearsed.

That applies just as much to teaching as it does to weddings.
